Knowing your maturity level helps set realistic goals. You can't jump from "Ad Hoc" (Level 1) to "Optimized" (Level 5) in a month.
We are skeptical of "box-ticking" maturity models. We prefer Capability Models. Don't tell me you are "Level 3"; tell me "I can deploy to production 10 times a day with <1% failure rate." Maturity should be measured by outcomes, not by the weight of your process documentation.
