The BRM acts as the bridge between "IT" and "The Business" (in traditional orgs). They prevent the "us vs. them" mentality and ensure that technology investments are solving relevant problems.
In a high-performing engineering culture, specialized BRMs are a sign of broken communication. We believe in Product-Centric teams where engineers interact directly with users. While the BRM function (empathy, alignment) is vital, we integrate it into the role of the Product Owner and the Engineering Lead, rather than outsourcing it to a middleman.
